This includes facility for future connection at each end as well as connection into the existing network at Quota Park and South Stradbroke Island and the facility to isolate at each end. South Stradbroke Island Pipeline Augmentation – Installing a mechanism to keep the upstream recycled water pipe network full during non-pumping times & providing a total system capable of flow rates up to 2,500 L/s.
Project Objective, Challenges Faced and Outcome
• Using shore boxes due to restricted work area & ground water.• Logistics was a challenge as all had to be transported by barge, including equipment, consumables, staff, plant, pipe.• Physically challenging working in the sand and the heat.• A state wide fire ban proved a challenge as all welding had to be undertaken off-site which involved having equipment transported by barge back to shore, welded then transported back onto the island within a tight timeframe so as not to impact on the work schedule.• Removing and replacing rock from sea walls and ensuring the safety of those on plant.• Clearing vegetation with an environmental spotter at all times.
